Reebok does not currently give us enough verified evidence for a confident ethical recommendation. Its published labour safeguards are useful, but public outcomes are harder to establish, and the available independent rating is old. Buyers should also know that Adidas no longer owns Reebok and that an optional checkout membership becomes a recurring subscription. Labour disclosure · Membership terms
Who owns Reebok now?
Authentic Brands Group completed its purchase of Reebok from Adidas in March 2022. The business operates through licensing and operating partners, so current Adidas sustainability statistics should not be used to describe Reebok. Completed acquisition
In February 2025, Authentic announced that Galaxy Universal would lead global product creation and sourcing, US footwear operations and e-commerce. A Galaxy–Batra joint venture would oversee Europe and the UK. This is different from saying those companies bought the brand itself. Operating arrangements
The distinction matters when you need an answer about a supplier or a faulty product. Identify the retailer and local operating company on your receipt, while asking the brand owner to explain how standards are enforced across licensees. A fragmented structure is not proof of poor conditions, but it makes clear responsibility more important.
What does Reebok promise factory workers?
Reebok’s current US supply-chain disclosure prohibits forced labour, describes third-party factory audits and requires corrective action when serious problems are found. It says persistent noncompliance following a repeat audit can lead to production being removed. It also requires the code to be displayed in the workers’ local language. Company safeguards
These are commitments and procedures. The page does not provide a recent factory-by-factory account of pay, complaint outcomes or compensation recovered by workers. Ending a supplier relationship may remove a brand’s exposure, but shoppers should also ask what happened to the people affected. A credible remedy account would explain the harm, the correction and how workers confirmed it.
We would be more confident with current public wage coverage and remedy evidence tied to the operating companies now sourcing Reebok goods. Historic Adidas reporting cannot fill that gap after the ownership change.
Why be careful with Reebok’s ethical rating?
The Good On You page available when we checked was last updated in April 2023. It rated Reebok “We avoid”, chiefly identifying insufficient disclosure and environmental and animal-sourcing gaps. That is a dated assessment, not a new verdict on the partners announced in 2025. Assessment and its date
We are not simply carrying that rating forward as a Mashinii score. The useful finding is that public assurance needs rebuilding around the present business. Reebok’s published labour statement is evidence that policies exist; it would be inaccurate to say it has none. It is equally inaccurate to turn those policies into proof of good conditions everywhere.
Does a material claim cover the whole shoe?
The 2023 assessment noted some recycled materials but also animal-derived materials, including leather. Treat that as background rather than a current catalogue inventory. The specification of the exact shoe you are considering is the relevant starting point. Dated material assessment
Ask whether a recycled-content percentage covers the upper, one component or the complete product. For an animal-free purchase, check the lining and trim as well as the main upper. For value, consider the intended activity, fit and whether a likely failure can be repaired. This research does not establish that a retro appearance or premium collaboration delivers a longer lifespan.
Is the checkout discount tied to a subscription?
Reebok’s Authentic Membership FAQ offers first-time members a 30-day trial requiring payment details. After the trial, billing repeats every 30 days. It says cancellation is available through the membership portal, while completed monthly charges are not refunded. The FAQ does not state the fee in its explanatory text, so confirm the amount shown at signup. Trial, billing and cancellation terms
This is an optional financial commitment, not just a free loyalty account. Before accepting a discount, compare the saving with the charges you expect to incur. If you only want one purchase, the membership may have little continuing value. The evidence here does not establish unlawful subscription practices; it establishes terms worth noticing before you consent.
Our overall view remains cautious: evaluate a necessary product on its own merits, keep useful items in service, and ask Reebok for recent worker outcomes and traceability. Better disclosure from the current operators would make an ethical judgement substantially more reliable.
