How we investigate brand conduct, distinguish claims from findings and make uncertainty clear.
What we investigate
Our guides start with how businesses treat people and the environment. We investigate workers’ rights, ownership, customer treatment, value for money and product longevity. These are separate questions. A low price does not establish good labour practices; a high price alone does not establish unfairness.
We select familiar brands and recurring consumer questions, informed by reader interest and search suggestions. Suggestions indicate possible questions, not measured search volumes. The collection is not a ranking of the largest or best brands.
How a guide is made
We begin with questions about the brand, identify its owner and look for original documents behind the claims. We compare company disclosures with relevant regulatory records, worker research, independent reporting and product testing. Drafts are checked for source support, dates, company responses and the limits of each finding.
AI tools assist research and drafting. These checks do not amount to independent human expert review and cannot eliminate errors. The founder maintains the publication and reviews reported issues. Our AI disclosure explains that role.
What sources can establish
Company sources can establish a stated policy, list price or ownership disclosure. They do not independently prove a product performs as promised. We look for independent reporting, testing, regulatory records and relevant research, and identify source types in each guide.
We distinguish allegations, formal findings, corporate promises and test results. Parent-company information is identified as such. Findings about one model, factory or market should not be read as claims about every product sold under a brand.
Prices, quality and savings
Price and subscription examples generally concern the US unless a different market is named. Prices are dated observations for a named variant or plan. They may change, and may exclude taxes or depend on promotions; check the original offer. A brand sold in other markets may have different policies and pricing.
We do not invent historical price series or present a price increase without a comparable baseline. Product quality discussions use attributed evidence. These are desk-researched guides, not hands-on tests performed by Mashinii. We make missing evidence visible instead of assigning an unsupported score.
Updates and corrections
The sources-checked date tells you when the guide was researched. Individual source dates can be older. We retain prior versions when a guide changes. If a policy, owner or product changes, the guide may need updating before it describes the new situation.
Send a correction with the affected guide and supporting source. You can also inspect our separate company scoring methodology.
