Frequently Asked Questions.
How Mashinii scores companies on integrity — and why it matters.
How do I check if a company is ethical?
Search for any company on Mashinii to see its integrity score across 11 ethical dimensions. Each score is backed by evidence from court filings, investigative journalism, NGO reports, and company disclosures — with each source rated by reliability. We cover 5,500+ public companies globally and are expanding coverage regularly.
What data sources do you use to score companies?
We use a combination of adversarial and primary sources: court records, regulatory filings, investigative news articles, NGO reports, and company disclosures. Each source is rated by reliability — adversarial sources like court filings carry more weight than corporate self-reports because companies can't control or spin them. We also consider the nature of the company and its industry when scoring. Traditional ESG providers rely heavily on corporate self-disclosures alone, which creates an obvious conflict of interest.
What are the 11 ethical dimensions you score companies on?
We score companies across 11 independent values: 1. Planet-Friendly Business — reducing pollution and carbon footprint 2. Honest & Fair Business — corporate integrity and anti-corruption 3. No War, No Weapons — rejecting involvement in arms and conflict 4. Fair Pay & Worker Respect — fair wages, safe conditions, no forced labour 5. Better Health for All — healthcare access and public health 6. Safe & Smart Tech — privacy, security, and ethical AI 7. Kind to Animals — treatment of animals in testing, sourcing, and operations 8. Respect for Cultures & Communities — indigenous rights and cultural heritage 9. Fair Money & Economic Opportunity — fair pricing and financial inclusion 10. Fair Trade & Ethical Sourcing — supply chains without exploitation 11. Zero Waste & Sustainable Products — waste reduction and circular economy Each dimension is scored independently with its own evidence base and source citations.
How is this different from ESG ratings?
ESG ratings from providers like MSCI or Sustainalytics rely largely on what companies self-report in sustainability disclosures. This creates a system where companies with bigger PR budgets score higher. Mashinii uses external, adversarial sources — court filings, local news, NGO investigations — alongside company disclosures, rating each source by reliability to build an independent picture of how a company actually behaves. The result is often very different from their ESG score.
How often are integrity scores updated?
Scores are not a real-time feed. Every company page shows when its investigation was last completed and links to the evidence used. Readers can fund a fresh investigation from an individual company page when they need a newer review; a fresh review may confirm the existing scores if no material new evidence is found.
Can I use Mashinii in my own research?
Yes. Company records, explanations and source citations are published for informational research. Follow the underlying sources and apply your own judgement: Mashinii scores are analytical opinions, not financial, legal or investment advice.
What companies do you cover?
We currently cover 5,508 publicly traded companies across global exchanges including NYSE, NASDAQ, LSE, Euronext, and major Asian markets. The universe includes large-cap, mid-cap, and many small-cap companies across every sector, and we are actively expanding coverage. You can search for any company on our homepage.
Is the data free?
Yes. Everything on the site is free to read — full scores, explanations, and source citations, with no account required. After two company lookups, subscribing to The Evidence Brief, our email briefing, unlocks unlimited company records. No account. No card.
How do you handle companies with limited public data?
Some companies have less coverage in court records and investigative media. When data is sparse, we consider the nature of the company and its industry to provide context, and our scores reflect lower confidence where appropriate. We never fabricate evidence or extrapolate from insufficient data. If a company doesn't have enough coverage, we say so transparently.
Do you have an API?
Programmatic access and data licensing are handled separately for organisations. Contact us with the intended use, coverage and delivery requirements. The public reader experience does not require an API key or account.
Who uses Mashinii?
Readers checking the companies behind products, services and investments; journalists following the underlying record; and researchers comparing corporate conduct across dimensions. Mashinii is designed for anyone who wants to look past a company's reputation and inspect the evidence.
Can journalists use this for investigations?
Yes. Every score links directly to its source — court filings, regulatory actions, investigative reports, and NGO publications. Journalists typically cite our underlying sources rather than Mashinii itself, which is exactly how we designed it. The data is structured to save research time, not replace editorial judgement.
